VaultletSuite 2 Go v2.4 Update Details Report

v2.4.4 Change Summary

This optional update is considered "small" by the Launcher module, and will only overwrite the vs.jar and language.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

Signatures for the installation utility can be found here.

A high level summary of changes included in v2.4 can be found here.

v2.4.4 Change Details

  • Finished bug review and fixes for v2.3.8: These bug fixes allow us to close out development work on v2.4 and prepare for new features to be included in v2.5. Here's a quick summary of the most notable bug fixes.
  • Forced exit from "Respond All" with new addressees: the auto add routine that adds new recipients to the VaultletMail's addressbook would occasionally attempt to add an address that the responder already had, causing the "Respond All" command to fail. Duplicates addressbook entries are now duly ignored, as you would expect them to be.
  • "Unable to properly display this message": viewing malformed messages (containing invalid HTML) received from the "outside world" would cause VM to complain and not display these messages. Now users are prompted to view the raw (malformed) message in an external viewer, such as Notepad or their web browser.
  • Network and/or Connectivity messages: the bug poster was treating networking problems (on the user's network) as worthy of note in our bug tracking log. Not only did this create quite a bit of extra work for us, but it kept us from paying attention to more important bugs. As a result, we've reduced the auto posting of these kinds of problems.
  • Updater's "NullPointerException" error message upon starting with no network connectivity available: the Updater and Launcher's cryptic message has been replaced w/ a message designed to be read by humans, presented in the expected error dialog format.
  • Added new Support FAQ entries: we've added new entries based upon commonly seen (and logged) error messages that show up in the auto-posted bug reports.
  • "Unable to validate path" message: while this is not a commonly seen bug, the language in the error message has been clarified a bit - now the user will be prompted to create the folders necessary to continue using the VaultletSuite 2 Go on the USB device they've chosen.

v2.4.3 Change Summary

This optional update is considered "small" by the Launcher module, and will only overwrite the vs.jar, images.jar and language.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

Signatures for the installation utility can be found here.

A high level summary of changes included in v2.4 can be found here.

v2.4.3 Change Details

  • Improved Help menus: We've added a "Support FAQ" entry to each of VS2Go applications. The support FAQ contains new entries based upon questions asked of us by VS2Go users. If you don't see your question(s) addressed there, you know what to do.
  • Improved online delete: a recent "very good" review pointed out the counterintuitive nature of the way VaultletMail's remote "Trash" folder worked. We've remedied that with this release.
  • Standardized interface language: while our Spanish version has always enjoyed standardized (and consistent) use of language, our English version has been a bit more varied and verbose. With this release, we've cleaned that up in preparation for a significant internationalization effort to be discussed in detail further on...

v2.4.0 Change Summary

This required update is considered a "partial update" by the Launcher module, and will overwrite all files in your VaultletSuite2Go directory *except* for the jre directory.

Signatures for the installation utility can be found here.

A high level summary of most visible changes included in v2.4 can be found here.

v2.4.0 Change Details

  • Added cached preferences processing: This strategy provides for a more responsive GUI, especially on low-bandwidth, high-latency networks. It also reduces the number of client-server transactions by ~20% for the average user.
  • Added language preferences to "My Account" menu: Users can now choose to be contacted by VaultletSoft in English or Spanish.
  • Added subscription preferences to "My Account" menu: Users can now choose to receive information (from us at VaultletSoft) that they're interested in on a regular basis.
  • Added conditional and informational capacity to Updater and Bug Poster modules: all users can now choose to see this web page before updating (or not), along with fine-grained control accounts being able to review the information contained within auto-posted bug reports before posting.
  • Bcc added: This was the most requested feature of all time. Enjoy!
  • Fixed sleeping computer's "Server Time Synchronization" bug: The VS2Go used to perform a forced shutdown upon waking up from sleep mode. Now, when waking up, it notifies the user that it needs to re-synch with the server's clock, and does just that. All w/o forcing a restart of the VS2Go client.
  • Removed Spanglish from DropBox and SpecialDelivery Viewer: Since both of these Applets are still in BETA, we decided to stick w/ English only until after they're out of BETA and stabilized.
  • Fixed installer & updater module permissiveness: Prior to v2.4, all installers that bundled a Java Runtime (JRE) allowed the Launcher to use the host computer's default Java Runtime. This led to inconsistent runtime behavior and quality control problems, and was resolved by obligating the VS2Go Launcher to use the JRE that it was installed with.
  • Improved DropBox ease of use : Senders can now click on the "Send" button whenever they wish. If addresses are incorrect or missing, the users will be prompted. The same applies to the Subject line.
  • Began enforcing inactive account disabling: accounts that have been inactive for more than one year and have no time remaining on their "Blue" subscriptions are now disabled automatically.
  • Fixed plain text rendering in VaultletMail (VM): line breaks were being ignored, compacting all text into one large paragraph.
  • Fixed bounced message entry into VM system from outside world: previously, bounced message reports ended up in their sender's SpamBot challenge folder. Now they are automatically admitted into their "Inbox".
  • Improved privacy protection for attachment file names in VaultletMail: sender's attachment file names are now hashed (obscured) and hex encoded before storage on our server. FYI: The content of the files has always been encrypted.
  • Fixed Java 1.6 flagging on OSX: Java 1.6 was being inaccurately singled out as an "out of date" JRE.
  • Added password reset option to the "Help" menu: Users are now pointed to our VS2Go FAQ on our website before requesting a password reset.
  • Added round trip processing capacity for SpecialDelivery (SD) messages: VaultletMail users will be able to receive, decrypt and view SD messages from outside the VaultletMail ecosystem (non- "@vaultletsoft.com" messages). This functionality will be enabled when the SD plugin for Firefox & Webmail enters BETA testing Real Soon Now™.
