VaultletSuite 2 Go v2.8 Update Details Report

v2.8.7.0-1 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, images.jar, txiki-lib.jar, and languages.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this optional update is ~1MB

v2.8.7.0-1 New Features, Enhancement or Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - DropBox v0.6.0) Added Automatic Tickler Creation: When somebody uses the DropBox applet to securely send a VaultletMail message, the recipient will automatically receive a tickler at their external account if they've signed up to receive them. That means that the lesser-used VS2Go system accounts (like "Bugs", "General Inquiries", etc.) will be automatically notified when somebody attempts to contact them.
  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery v1.3) Now Available in Spanish: Not only does the SpecialDelivery client automatically configure itself according to a user's locale, but it also allows them to toggle between English and Spanish. This update also includes everything we need to easily translate it to other languages in the future.
  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery v1.3) Now Available as a Java Web Start Application: Since Firefox's Java Applet support on OS X and Linux leaves a bit to be desired, we've decided to automatically offer and run the Web Start version whenever the SD Applet finds itself running in Firefox on OS or Linux.
  • (Enhancement - DropBox v0.6.0) Now Available in Spanish: Offers the same advantages as the SpecialDelivery client (above).
  • (Enhancement - DropBox v0.6.0) Now Available as a Java Web Start Application: Offers the same advantages as the SpecialDelivery client (above).
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Simplified Mail Folder Order and Icons: This latest version now groups the most commonly used folders first. As a result, the "Inbox", "Sent" and "Trash" folders are displayed before the "Receipts", "Unopened by recipient" and "Unknown sender" folders.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Simple Message Deletion Shortcut: As most users would expect, hitting the delete key (when displaying messages in the mailbox list) causes the highlighted message(s) to be moved to the trashbin.
  • (Enhancement -VaultletMail) Added Transparent Folder Rendering: Now the tree labels in the VaultletSuite 2 Go use transparent rendering. As a result, users with large PasswordValet document list will have a beautiful overlay of file names painted transparently over top of the application icon in the lower left hand corner.
  • (Enhancement -VaultletMail) Greatly Simplified the Attachment "Save" Process: The attachment save process was a bit baroque in previous versions. Now users are greeted with a simple and more familiar file save dialog and process that works just like any other application. As it should be! Special tip o' the sombrero to SH for this one.
  • (Enhancement -VaultletSuite) Added "Growable" User Input Dialogs: Accompanying the internationalization of software comes the conundrum of how much space to allocate for the proper rendering and display of a given message. Since languages differ in how many words and much space they need to get their message across, we've added a neat feature that allows the user input dialogs (like the "SpecialDelivery Secret Code" dialog) to grow to the correct proportions for the text they're supposed to display. In doing so it also "shakes" itself a bit, drawing the user's attention to the popup. We'll be including this feature in the rest of the VaultletSuite2Go's different kinds of popups in coming versions.
  • (Enhancement -VaultletSuite) Added Improved DiskLocator Icons: These icons now offer greater contrast and are more consistent with the application's color scheme. A small thing, but now it's far more visually obvious that "Roaming without a USB drive" is what its name implies.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail v2.9 ALPHA) Added the First Implementation of the "Chrono" Folder Display: Alpha testers will be able to take their first look at this unique and very handy way of storing, displaying, and organizing email folders: by the date and time a message was sent or received. This approach will also make it easy to implement a filter system that allows users to look for messages based upon email addresses (sender/receiver) and timestamp ranges.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail v2.9 ALPHA) Performed Code Reorganization to Facilitate the Upcoming Move to the "Chrono" File System: Before we could undertake the move to v2.9's new underpinnings, a significant amount of cleanup, consolidation, documentation and new support process had to be added. This will ultimately help to make it easier for everybody to make the transition from the pre-v2.9 file storage system to the new and greatly improved one.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Fixed Missing "Attachment File Overwrite?" Prompt: When saving an attachment, if a file with the same name as the attachment already existed, the prompt to confirm the overwrite was missing the proper translation tags and as a result did not save the attachment nor overwrite the pre-existing file. Now works like it should.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Fixed Broken "Empty Window" Display: For some reason, Java on OSX doesn't like it when you attempt to display and empty, although syntactically correct, html document. This goofy little bug was making it impossible for people to delete all of their locally archived files on OSX. Now that this one is out of the way, they can delete to their heart's content.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Enforced Maximum Subject Length in Outgoing Messages: Settled on a maximum number of 128 letters in an outgoing message. This serves two purposes: 1) Limits problems w/ other email clients who may implement other arbitrary limits, and 2) Keeps the VaultletMail database from complaining when excessively long subject lines are too big to add to the database.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Enforced Maximum Account Name Length: While internet email standards allow for insanely long (320 character) email addresses, we're limiting them to 32 characters for the account name, plus whatever the domain name length comes to. How did we arrive at the maximum of 32 letters? Turns out that research has shown that ~99% of all email addresses are 32 characters or less in length, and that actually counts the domain name characters too.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Disabled Use of Keyboard Shortcuts in Russian Version: For whatever the reason, Java on Russian operating systems doesn't want to honor the keyboard mnemonic suggestions, while they work perfectly fine for other European languages. These Russian mnemonics will stay disabled until a satisfactory explanation and solution is found.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Disabled Double Clicks on the Delete Button: Don't know why, but Java on OS X is allowing the message "Delete" button to receive double clicks. Perhaps some users have a special "Double click" funtion added to their multi-button mice? A simple workaround was to temporarily disable this button until the delete process was properly initiated.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Newly Sent Messages Are Properly Listed in the "Unopened" and "Sent" Folders: For those who actually notice these things, both of these folders now correctly update the stats information, along with inserting the newly added message into their respective lists.

v2.8.5/6 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, txiki-lib.jar, and languages.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this optional update is ~0.5MB

v2.8.5/6 New Features, Enhancement or Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement) More Reliable Messaging (Fine Grained VaultletMail Availability Monitor): This new module continually watches all incoming and out going mail queues, internal VaultletMail process, server "ping-ability" and "find-ability" and automatically alerts VaultletSoft when something's not working as well as it should.

Now VaultletSoft will know long before anyone else that our VaultletMail system needs to be attended to. That means that you'll get more available and reliable secure email messaging with fewer hiccups.

  • (Enhancement) Easier VaultletMail Viewing: We've added an expected behavior on Windows: hitting the "Enter" key while viewing an email list will automatically display the message selected. Thanks to ToV for pointing this out.
  • (Enhancement) Renamed VaultletMail Folders: Our "Undelivered" mail folder took too much time to explain, so we changed the name to "Unopened by recipient".

Now you'll be able to see if somebody's actually opened your VaultletMail message to them. And if you want documentation, then just choose "Request receipt" when you composed your messages to them.

The former "SpamChallenged" folder has also been renamed to "Not in AddressBook" to more accurately reflect the contents of this folder too.

  • (Enhancement) Improved VaultletMail Folder Tooltips: All of the VaultletMail folders now have tooltips in Spanish and English that help you to better understand just what's in each folder. Other languages coming soon.
  • (Enhancement) Easier "Forgotten Password" Help (VaultletSuite Login Screen): We put a "I forgot my password!" link right where you'd need it most if you forgot your password: right there on the login screen.
  • (Security) Updated Java Runtime Bundled with VS2Go: Version 1.6.0_15 includes numerous bug fixes that don't directly affect VS2Go users (as it's installed for the VS2Go's exclusive use, instead of system-wide use), but has been included for the sake of being thorough.
  • (Security Bug Fix) Disabled Overly Verbose Multipart Message Handling in VaultletMail Client: Our Multipart handler was dumping too much of a multipart recipient's message body to the current session's bug tracking log. Now only the metadata is logged for debugging purposes.
  • (Bug Fix) Fixed VaultletMail Dynamic Font Resizing Menus: Implemented better enabling/disabling logic for the display of the "Increase/Reset/Decrease" options on both the popup and regular VaultletMail menus. A big t'anks to HRO for this one.
  • (Bug Fix) Disabled VaultletMail Composer "Anonymous" Sender Option: There are two main reasons that we disabled the ability to send messages as "anonymous@vaultletsoft.com": 1) In legal terms, delivering anonymous message is a hard position to defend (as history has shown), and 2) It was never "truly" anonymous (merely pseudo anonymous) as it did not protect users from high-level "Traffic Analysis" attacks.

This has been replaced by an exclusively VaultletMail to VaultletMail "Sender.Name.Witheld" option, which clearly identifies its lack of protection from Traffic Analysis attacks, while prompting recipients for explicit permission to receive messages from senders who withhold their names and identifying information from their VaultletMail messages.

This change should address issues of liability and transparency.

  • (Bug Fix) Fixed Local Message Deletion for VaultletMail: Our obfuscation library was breaking valid Java classes and causing the deletion routine to go into a race condition and create outrageously large bug log files.
  • (Bug Fix) Added Plaintext Email Import Throttling to the VaultletMail Server: Importing thousands of plaintext messages after a temporary outage would cause a low-level Denial of Service (DoS) on the VaultletMail server, whilst also causing the server's batch processing of too many messages to timeout. To remedy this, we've added a maximum number of plaintext messages that be imported at one time when running in batch mode.
  • (Bug Fix) Fixed "Document Not Found" Message for Users of Non-i18n Languages: The internationalization routine (i18n) for dynamically building URLs for displaying documents within the VaultletSuite was incorrectly generating URLs for documents when a user was from a language group outside the currently supported language groups (English, Spanish, French, Russian and Arabic). Now defaults to English if they're not in the group of the 5 supported languages.
  • (Bug Fix) Fixed VaultletMail Folder Overloading: We're having our first experience with users who are managing thousands of messages. In some cases, the current implementation was attempting to download too many messages at a time and failing, leaving some users with partially populated inboxes.

The fix involves two steps: 1) Establish a maximum number of messages that a Blue account user can manage per folder (256) and per account (512), 2) Add the capacity for Gold account holders to download and populate their inboxes incrementally with no limit to the number of messages that they can manage with the VaultletMail client. Step 1 has already been implemented, while step 2 will be included in v2.9 when it's released.

v2.8.4 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, images.jar, txiki-lib.jar, languages.jar, languages_ru.jar, and languages_fr.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this optional update is ~1.0MB

v2.8.4 New Feature or Enhancement Details

  • SpecialDelivery Viewer (SDV) Automatic Bug Poster: This nifty new module should help to dramatically increase the quality of user experience with an applet that's deployed on so many different platforms. Thanks to all who took the time to manually document the bugs and oddities that they were seeing before this enhancement was implemented.
  • SpecialDelivery Extension for Webmail (Firefox): Added an optimization to the automatic check for updates. Now only checks for a new version the first time Firefox is run in any given web browsing session.
  • VaultletMail AddressBook Autoadd: Added the ability for users to turn off this convenience feature, so that incoming and outgoing message's senders and recipients are no longer added to the AddressBook. Thanks to HRO for this suggestion.
  • DropBox "Contact Me" Button Customization: Added the ability for users to easily and automatically generate customized HTML that allows them to add pre-addressed DropBox popup and embedded applets to their web pages. Props to Taco for the suggestion
  • VaultletMail Composer Optimization: Added a very space efficient way to send the same message to more than four recipients. While previous implementation took up too much space when sending to multiple recipients, this improvement allows any number of recipients to be displayed in the amount of space that it takes to display four recipient's addresses. A big "eskerrik asko" goes out to my very own IKRA and IAA who pointed out how nice it would be to have this.

v2.8.4 Bug Fix Details

  • SpecialDelivery Viewer (SDV): Now correctly enforces maximum views assigned by sender.
  • SDV "Null" bug: Fixed current crop of "Null" bugs by rewriting code for switching between editor and message display mode.
  • SDV Responding with Expired Key Pair: Fixed inappropriate use of an expired keypair when responding to a message signed with a now-expired keypair. Now correctly uses the recipient's latest valid keypair.
  • SDV Posting Progress and Finalization Bug: Fixed doubling of popup dialogs (progress and "Finished!"). Now correctly displays one at a time.
  • VaultletSuite 2 Go: Updated Russian and Spanish translations.
  • VaultletSuite Installer: Further cleanup of Russian and Spanish translations.
  • VaultletMail Composer (VMC): Fixed collapsed and illegible SpecialDelivery "secret code" dialog. Now correctly displays entire contents in Russian.
  • VMC Search-by-typing Addressing to Recipients: Fixed broken search-by-typing due to Java Runtime security upgrades, and also added a nice "select the first item in the list" approach that saves the sender one keystroke when choosing a matching recipient address from the popup recipient list.
  • VaultletSuite 2 Go: Added size "suggestion" parameters to popup dialogs displaying large amounts of text. Now allows for more appropriate resizing of dialog to accommodate the text content to display.
  • VaultletMail (VM) "View Externally" (Russian and Arabic): Temporarily disabled the ability to view VM messages in default browser until a better "best guess" for local default character set can be implemented. It turns out that defaulting to UTF-8 isn't always the best approach for the Russian version.
  • VaultletSuite 2 Go Internationalization (i18n): Fixed broken Russian SpecialDelivery message templates whose content was being improperly serialized and then displayed illegibly.
  • VaultletSuite 2 Go Startup: Removed inappropriate local search for expired keypairs when user was in roaming mode w/o an external storage device.

v2.8.3 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, updater.jar, images.jar, txiki-lib.jar, languages.jar, languages_ru.jar, and languages_fr.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this optional update is ~1.1MB

v2.8.3 New Feature or Enhancement Details

  • Reduced Installer Size: The new installers are anywhere from 1.8 MB to 3.4 MB smaller than the installers created for v2.8.2. That saves everybody time and bandwidth.
  • Minimalist Installer (no JRE) for Windows and Linux: As a nod to our control-oriented, advanced users, we've just added two new installers to our build collection, which weigh in at 4.8 MB - 4.1 MB, respectively. These installers are small because they don't bundle Sun's JRE with them. This saves advanced users significant download bandwidth and time. On the other hand...

Note: These installers are designed for advanced users who are willing and able to install and maintain a separate system JRE. The work associated with saving considerable bandwidth (in this case) is not for the faint of heart.

Note 2: This means that advanced users may see subtle differences in behavior of the VaultletSuite 2 Go, as they may be using non-standard JREs with different bugs or behaviors than the JREs that are used to build and test the current production version.

Note 3: The minimum required installed JRE version for these minimalist builds is version 1.6.0_10.

  • (i18n) French Translation Finalized: v2.8.0 is now fully supported with the inclusion of the final version of the French UI translation. A big tip o' the old sombrero to "A" and "PC" up North for this one!
  • (i18n) Russian Translation Finalized: v2.8.0 is now fully supported with the inclusion of the final version of the Russian UI translation. A big tip o' the old sombrero to "HRO" for the good questions, bugs found (and reported), and a fine eye for detail and consistency!
  • VaultletMail Composer (VMC) Font Zooming: Added dynamic font resizing for the message editor window. Very handy on tiny computer screens or OS's with microscopic default font sizes! The last font size used is restored upon starting a new session. This functionality is accessible via the "Tools" menu, keyboard shortcuts, and by right clicking on the message display pane. Thanks to "Leonid" and "HRO" for the suggestion.
  • Added "Select All" to Cut/Copy/Paste Popup Menus: Added right-click editing menus to VaultletMail, the VaultletMail Composer, AddressBook and PasswordValet. Thanks to CL for the original tap on the shoulder.
  • PasswordValet (PV) File Sorting: Improved the utility of the PV file list by sorting them according to their name.
  • PV New File Creation: Made it easier and faster to create new PV's, and also added a nice "best guess" approach as to where you would want the new PV posted: to your local storage, or VaultletSoft's servers.
  • PV Font Zooming: Added dynamic font resizing for the PV editor window too, along with the same shortcuts as in the VM and VMC.
  • Security in-a-box Tutorials: Added new links to the latest SecBox online publication - one to the high level "tools and tactics", and another pointing to the their VaultletSuite2Go tutorial. Currently available in the English and Spanish versions, will be available RealSoonNow™ in French and Russian.
  • VaultletMail (VM) AlertBar: Finalized full notification and attention getting flashing of alerts for: ScopeControlled messages, in addition to the already present, HalfLife'd by views and time, along with ReceiptRequested and SpecialDelivery notification.
  • VaultletMail (VM) ScopeControl: Added background and border highlighting for ScopeControlled documents, making it more obvious that the recipient was viewing a constrained document.
  • SpecialDelivery (SD) AlertBar: Added the full complement of flashing alerts for constrained messages, along with using the VM's display colors for constrained messages.
  • VM Performance Enhancements: Improved statistics generation time by a factor of 50x! Not only is it faster for system administrators, but it also frees up a considerable amount of server CPU time for simultaneously handling user requests.

v2.8.3 Bug Fix Details

  • Updater and Launcher (UnL) UI: Removed an overly broad "mnemonics/shortcut remover" which was originally designed for use on OS X, and ended up being used on Windows too.
  • UnL i18n Omission: Fixed missing translation keys for the UnL's Connectivity tab. Thanks to "HRO" for this one.
  • New User Wizard (NUW) i18n: Added missing visual feedback concerning a new account's password length. Thanks to "HRO" for this one.
  • NUW: Consistently implemented the orange "Label Hovering" effect for user choices while creating a new account.
  • NUW Missing Status: Added missing status information back into the account creation process. Thanks to "HRO" for this one.
  • NUW Improved i18n Layout: Added more horizontal space for languages that are more verbose than English. Now everything is much more legible. Again, thanks go to "HRO" for this one.
  • NUW Missing Status: Added missing status information back into the account creation process. Thanks to "HRO" for this one.
  • PasswordValet (PV) SmartWindows: Fixed Java's broken over-reporting of window resizing events. As a result, the proper size and location are once again stored and restored upon ending and initiating a new session.
  • PV "Save" Button Keyboard Shortcut: Enabled the previously disabled "Cntl+S" keyboard shortcut for saving edited PV files.
  • VaultletMail New User Welcome (i18n): Fixed garbled Russian text in "Welcome" message subject, along with system generated "Tickler" messages and "DropBox" URLs in Russian version. Once again, thanks go to "HRO" for reporting this one.
  • VaultletMail Composer (VMC): Fixed Russian "Micro Fonts" bug that assigned a 9 point font to the VMC. Same solution applied to PV editor.
  • VaultletSuite Installer: Fixed agrammatical Russian translations in installer utility. Once again, thanks go to you know who reporting and fixing this.
  • VaultletSuite Splash Screen: Fixed out-of-date copyright notice. Chalk up another one for HRO, MVP of this release ;-)
  • VaultletSuite Windows Flashing on Windows: Attenuated/fixed (~90%) a Java window management bug on Windows that caused the underlying desktop and other visibly running programs to flash and be briefly painted over the VaultletMail window when it finished some long running task. A definitive fix for this should appear when v3.0 is released.
  • VaultletSuite SSL and Java Security Update: Added VaultletSoft's top level CA certificate used to sign the testing website and server' SSL certificate. This means that the VS2Go client can be pointed to a server that hasn't payed the excessive SSL certificate toll and still get all the SSL bit protecting goodness it, and you, deserve.
  • VaultletSuite Toolbar & Auto Zoom Collision: Fixed negative interaction between the "AutoZoom" and the new subscription status information. Now they co-exist quite nicely.

v2.8.2 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, txiki-lib.jar, languages.jar, languages_ru.jar, and languages_fr.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

v2.8.2 New Feature or Enhancement Details

  • (i18n) French translation updated: v2.8.0 is now fully supported with the inclusion of the current French draft translation. A big tip o' the old sombrero to "A" up North for this one!
  • VaultletMail (VM) Font Zooming: Added dynamic font resizing for the message display window. Very handy on tiny computer screens or OS's with microscopic default font sizes! The last font size used is restored upon starting a new session. This functionality is accessible via the "Tools" menu, keyboard shortcuts, and by right clicking on the message display pane. Thanks to Leonid for the suggestion.
  • Cut/Copy/Paste Popup Menus: Added right-click editing menus to VaultletMail, the VaultletMail Composer, AddressBook and PasswordValet. Thanks to CL for the tap on the shoulder.
  • PasswordValet (PV) Viewability: Vastly improved the visibility and contrast of displayed content when in "View" mode. Thanks to AA for pointing this out!
  • Simple Subscription Status Bar and Account Updating: Added a really nice, yet unobtrusive, way to let everybody know the status of their subscription, and how to easily update or extend it. Also very handy for running "Seven Day" subscription sales :-)
  • New Feature and Pricing Compliance: Began implementing some of the time, size and space constraints referenced in the new client licensing matrix. Go here to find out what's coming in v2.9-v3.1.

v2.8.2 Bug Fix Details

  • VaultletSuite "SmartWindows": Neither the default size nor previous size were being properly restored for the VaultletMail window. By limiting Java's over-reporting of resizing events, this windows last position and size is now properly restored upon initiating a new session.

v2.8.1.1-2 Change Summary

This optional update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

v2.8.1.1-2 Bug Fix Details

  • VaultletSuite Startup: Fixed a bug in the Anti Alias (AA) text rendering library that was breaking startup on Ubuntu 8.04. Since Linux and OS X already have pretty good AA support, the only operating systems that get it are Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
  • Updater and Launcher (UnL): Added same fix to UnL application.
  • UnL Configuration Editor: Same as above.
  • Native Look and Feel (LnF): Reverted to Metal LnF on Windows 2000, Sun's native Win2K LnF was unacceptable.

v2.8.0.2 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will only overwrite the vs.jar and updater.jar files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

v2.8.0.2 Bug Fix Details

  • VaultletSuite Updater and Launcher (UnL): Login dialog was attempting to authenticate users against the beta testing version of the VaultletSuite 2 Go. Now, users are authenticated against the production server.
  • SpecialDelivery Viewer: Changed default preference from logging in to the beta server to the production server.

...top

v2.8.0 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite all of the jars files in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory, along with the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

Note: Updating all of the Vaultletsuite 2 Go's jar files is required, as the digital certificate used to sign them recently expired. This certificate was subsequently renewed and used to re-sign all the *.jar files that the VaultletSuite 2 Go uses.

v2.8.0 New Feature or Enhancement Details

  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE): The VaultletSuite 2 Go now uses Sun's latest and greatest JRE (v1.6), which brings you better performance, stability and a greatly enhanced Native Look and Feel (next).
  • VaultletSuite Native Look and Feel (LnF): The VaultletSuite 2 Go now uses the host Operating System's native desktop LnF on Windows XP, Vista, 2000, OSX and Gnome. This means that users now get GUI widgets that more closely resemble the widgets they've been working with all along. The result? Fewer aesthetic and cognitive distractions for new, infrequent or less experienced users.
  • VaultletSuite 2 Go Buttons: The VaultletSuite 2 Go's main toolbars now sport a vertical layout which takes up less horizontal space. This allows the Spanish, French, Russian and Arabic GUI translations to better lay themselves out. This is important, as English is fairly telegraphic, while these other languages generally take more space to render their text.
  • SpecialDelivery Viewer Application BETA (SDV Application): Added a new standalone application to the standard VaultletSuite 2 Go installation (v2.8.0.2). This application can be run on your computer without using your browser or having to enable Java Applets in your browser.
  • SDV Applet and Application BETA: Added "Respond to all" functionality. Now you can have secure, ScopeControlled and HalfLife'd email conversations with multiple recipients at just about any email address.
  • SDV Applet and Application BETA: Added "SmartAlert" notification for HalfLife'd messages, the beginnings of language preferences, and better "invalid account/password" feedback, similar to the VS2Go's login screen.
  • SDV Applet and Application BETA: Respondent's responses inherit the constraints placed upon them by the original sender, just like the VaultletMail Composer does.
  • SDV Applet and Application BETA: Added separate "Options" and "Message" menu, similar to the rest of the VS2Go.
  • SpecialDelivery Webmail Viewer Extension for Firefox BETA: One right click on a SpecialDelivery message received at a webmail account decrypts and displays the contents of the message. User can choose between using the SDV Applet or local Application BETA to securely view and respond to SpecialDelivery messages.
  • Internationalized (i18n) and Differentiated SpecialDelivery Messages: First time and experienced recipients now receive different instructions (detailed and brief), in the language of their choice: Languages currently include English and Spanish, French and Russian.
  • (i18n) System Messages: User's "You've Got VaultletMail" and "Welcome to the VaultletSuite 2 Go" messages, along with DropBox URLs are encoded in the recipient's language of choice: Languages currently include English and Spanish; French and Russian to come within days of putting v2.8 into production.
  • (i18n) New User Wizard: The EULA and the "Control vs. Simplicity" table seen in the New User Wizard now are viewable in English, Spanish, French and Russian. The EULAs also include a translated "Simple Summary" section for non-native speakers of English.
  • (i18n) Installer: The EULA's translated summary is now displayed according to the GUI language chosen upon starting the installer application. Currently available in English, Spanish, French and Russian.
  • Updater and Launcher (UnL): Added a "Skip all updates except for security and compatibility updates" option to both the partial and End of Life (EOL) sections, along with improving the descriptions accompanying the four categories of update types.
  • VaultletMail (VM): Simplified the presentation of each message's metadata (ScopeControl, HalfLife, etc) by adding "SmartAlerts" that function like Firefox's notification bar. The end result? Less cluttered message presentation, notification of message constraints that save space, plus, they're hard to miss too!
  • VaultletMail Composer Spelling Checker (VMC): Added Spanish spelling checker for Gold accounts, along with the ability to choose between English and Spanish while in the middle of composing a message.
  • VMC Spelling Checker: Added common technical terms and abbreviations to both the English and Spanish spelling checker for Gold accounts.
  • VMC SpecialDelivery: Added a new prompt for outgoing plaintext messages that allows users to choose between sending them insecurely, or via SpecialDelivery. Currently defaults to "Send insecurely", but once the SpecialDelivery Webmail Extension for Firefox exits beta testing, we'll set the default to use SpecialDelivery.
  • VMC SpecialDelivery Options: Added menu options to set preferences for how outgoing (non-VaultletMail) should be handled by default, in addition to whether users should always be prompted or their preferred default should be applied automatically.
  • VaultletSuite Options: Promoted all of the VaultletSuite 2 Go's application "Options" menus from being nestled inside of the "Tools" menus to between the "Tools" and the "Help" menus.
  • VaultletSuite Options: Organized and bundled separate but related options into groups so that they're more easily understood and accessed.
  • VaultletSuite Tech Support Forms: Added a "Help" menu entry to all applications that points the user's browser to the new Tech Support Forums. Browser access to these forums is always protected via SSL.
  • PasswordValet: Added "New", "Save" and "Print" shortcut keys.
  • Anonymity: Removed all IP information from the VaultletSuite 2 Go's access logs.
  • System Administration: Reformatted the statistics summary pages, so that they are more legible and meaningful.

v2.8.0 Bug Fix Details

  • SDV Applet and Application: Fixed uncommon cases where expiration date would not be enforced.
  • SpecialDelivery Viewer (SDV): Changed default preference from logging in to the beta server to the production server.
  • Installer: Fixed broken "Run VaultletSuite 2 Go" checkbox language that appeared at the end of a successful installation.
  • System Administration: Removed overly verbose debugging output from the production server.
  • VaultletMail Composer (VMC): Fixed "Null Pointer Exception" thrown when auto-adding an email address before responding to a message whose sender's name was null.
  • VMC: Fixed broken "un quoting" when toggling between no quoting and traditional ("> ") quoting for responses and forwarded messages.
  • VMC: Fixed missing "Maximize" button on Windows.
  • VMC: Fixed layout of "To/Cc/Bcc" and "+/-" button on Windows.
  • VMC and SDV: Both now clone a HalfLife'd message before responding to it. This will help to avoid having the message being responded to disappearing while in the middle of a response. This error was never seen or reported in the wild, but, since it was possible, it should be prevented.
  • SDV: Removed display of internal recipients (you@vaultletsoft.com) from login dialog for SDV,as they're not a relevant choice for SD recipients.
  • SDV: Reordered authentication via sender's "Secret Code" so that it happens before a first time recipient creates a new account for themselves. This will help to avoid possible Man in the Middle (MitM) attacks on new SD accounts.
  • SDV: Fixed overly sensitive "Invalid Message Format" algorithm so it displays a more innocuous "No Message Found" alert, along with simplified instructions for proceeding.
  • SpecialDelivery SSL Viewer (SDV SSL): Fixed broken redirection for alpha version of flyweight (non-java) SpecialDelivery viewer.
  • VaultletSuite "About": Fixed broken resize and layout on Windows.
  • HalfLife SmartAlert for VM and SDV: Fixed "null:09" time remaining notification for HL'd messages that were sent with a 10 second self-destruct time. Now correctly displays "00:09".
  • Beta v2.8 Bugs: Also fixed 20+ bugs uncovered during beta testing, thanks to our tester's good eyes and insight.
