VaultletSuite 2 Go v2.9 Update Details Report

v2.9.8.4 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar file in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

The size of this required update is ~0.4MB.

v2.9.8.4 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Header to Folder View Table: Now displays the name of the currently selected mail tree folder.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added "Countdown Relief" to Auto-Delete Process: The number of remaining avisory notifications before automatic deletion is increased by one if a user deletes or archives some messages on the server. This effectively grants a user a small reprieve from automatic deletion when they exceed system resource limits for their account and they attempt to take action.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Server) Added Automatic Account Auditing, Reporting & Deletion Grace Period: Now, when the VaultletMail server reviews each user's account for compliance with system resource quotas, that user is notified via email. Also currently grants these same users a 72 hour grace period after email notification before their messages and attachments are automatically deleted. If a given user exceeds their resource limits and does not have a valid external email address, then a message is sent to their VaultletMail address.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Fixed Non-Appearing AddressBook: Address a short-lived bug introduced in v2.9.8.x that prevented it from being displayed when the AddressBook button was clicked.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail Server) Improved Excess Message Deletion Accuracy: Previous implementation of "deleteExcessMessagesBySize" would not delete all of the messages on the server that contributed to their exceeding system resource limits. Current version is now is more strict about meeting space limits.

v2.9.8.0-3 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, languages.jar, txiki-lib.jar and images.jar files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

The size of this required update is ~1.3MB.

v2.9.8.0-3 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Folder View Table: Now displays the currently selected mail folder's children (other mail folders) in the VaultletMail table. This view functions in a way that is consistent with how most operating systems display a tree view's currently selected folder. Big thanks to WB for this great suggestion, and patience in waiting for this to be implemented - 'turned out to be easily and cleanly implementable!
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Easy Archiving and Deletion (Per Month) via Right Click Popup Menus: Now displays the appropriative options per monthly mail folder selected: "Archive all messages" and "Delete all messages". This makes it much easier for users to comply with their account's storage quotas.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer and SpecialDelivery Viewer) Added Background Generation and Caching of Transient Attachment KeyPairs: This performance enhancement can reduce the amount of time a sender has to wait while their message's attachments are prepared for transmission (encrypted) by anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds. In v2.9.9, will also be used to speed up the HTML + SSL version of the Webmail Plugin for Firefox.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Server) Added Automatic Account Auditing & Reporting: Server reviews each user's account for compliance with system storage time, size occupied, and message quantity quotas. Currently notifies system administrator that which users are exceeding their limits, in v2.9.9, users will be notified once via email, thereafter, their messages will be deleted, oldest first, until they are compliant with quotas.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Server) Added Orphaned Attachment Cleanup: Periodically reviews all attachments stored on server's file system for appropriate representation in the VS2Go database.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Server) Added Ability to Delete Excess Messages by Size: Now capable of deleting a given user's excess messages, oldest first, when they've exceed their maximum storage space quota.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Automatic Prompt to Upgrade Based on Storage Volume Quotas: Now checks for compliance with maximum storage space quota per account type (Basic, Blue, Gold). This is in addition to the message quantity and age check that was added in v2.9.7.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletSuite) Added Maximum Session Length Enforcement: Now checks for, and enforces, maximum session length (login time), which is currently set to 24hrs. This allows the automatic server based system quota auditor to remove excess messages on the server w/o creating a possible out-of-synch condition between the VM client and server components.
  • (Quality Control - SpecialDelivery Webmail Plugin for Firefox) Removed Incompatible Plugin Update Check: Removed all code that referenced a now out of date FF library. Result: users's don't automatically see a useless Plugin update dialog every time they start FF.
  • (Quality Control - All VaultletSuite Apps) Removed Infrequently Used "Tips" Option from all Help Menus: As this feature was infrequently used, removing it from the Help menus reduced clutter.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletSuite) Cleaned up Dead Code: Removed unused/old source code that's no long used in production. Also refactored some of the VaultletMail and VaultletMail Composer client's code into separate VaultletMail Library code modules. This helps to prepare for the upcoming development of v3.0 of the VaultletSuite 2 Go.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail Server) Added Better Borked Image Compression Fallback: Added a more junk tolerant version of image compression strategy for incoming plaintext messages that have incorrectl Base64 encoding. Having to do this is largely the result of some users receiving excessive amounts of poorly(!) constructed Spam.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail Client) Added Improved "Valid Email Address" Check: The old version didn't check for doubled "@" signs w/in a user's typed in email address. Now properly check for more than one "@" sign in an email address, and notifies user before aborting message sending. That means that an address such as "you@somewhere@another.com" will now be considered invalid.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Added Improved Plaintext Message Printing: The old version improperly included embedded HTML source code w/in printed plaintext messages. Now is legible and sometimes uses up to 90% less paper to print a given message. Many thanks to H for sending in a verbatim copy of a source code infested printout!

v2.9.6-7 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, languages.jar, txiki-lib.jar and images.jar files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

The size of this required update is ~1.3MB.

v2.9.6-7 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Added Large Secure SpecialDelivery Attachments: Recipients of SpecialDelivery messages can now respond to their senders and include large attachments.
  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Added Viewable HalfLife and ScopeControl for SpecialDelivery Attachments: Senders of SpecialDelivery messages can now limit the propagation of attachments, while recipients can view them securely, without being able to print, archive and/or forward them.
  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery) Added Expiration Dates for SpecialDelivery Attachments: Previously, recipients of SpecialDelivery messages were leaving their encrypted attachments laying around on the server for months on end. They are now notified that their attachments will be automatically deleted from the server after 30 days. This frees up server storage space for paying VaultletMail users in addition to allowing us to support more users of our secure messaging service at the same cost to us.
  • (Enhancement - Ultralite SpecialDelivery Viewer) Released First Full ALPHA SD Viewer: Now VaultletMail users can send secure SpecialDelivery messages to webmail users (Gmail for example) who don't have Java installed on their computer. This first full ALPHA version allows recipients to view and respond to their messages, in addition to securely downloading and uploading attachments. This Ultralite version is best suited for organizations or individuals who can't be assured that their recipients have the correct version(s) of Java installed, or for recipients whose computers may be old or under-resourced with respect to RAM or processor speed necessary to run Java applets or applications.
  • (Enhancement - Firefox Webmail Plugin for SpecialDelivery) Enabled Ultralite ALPHA SD Viewer: Just in time to complement the first full ALPHA release of the Ultralite SpecialDelivery viewer, comes the ability to toggle both BETA and ALPHA SDV features. And each comes with the appropriate warnings and disclaimers pertinent to using ALPHA or BETA software.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer) Added Sender's Copy Options for Senders of ScopeControl or HalfLife'd Messages: Not everybody wants to, or should, keep a copy of an outgoing ScopeControl'ed or HalfLife'd message. Now senders can now make that decision themselves. Currently defaults to "Keep sender's copy".
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer) Added Large Attachment Optimization Message: Since large attachments are by definition large, storing the "Sender's Copy" on their computer's hard drive instead of on the VaultletMail server can save senders up to 50% of the time necessary to upload their attachments. With this optimization, they are now notified that their copy, along with its large attachments has been stored locally. This option is not available when in roaming mode w/o an external storage device.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Excess System Time and Quantity Notification: Due to the popularity and growing usage of the VaultletMail system, all users, from Basic to Gold, will be notified when they exceed system resource limits. This advisory capacity is also coupled with a "grace period" for manually archiving their messages, and will be followed up by automatic deletion of excess messages, oldest first.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Made Missing Attachment Signature Notification Optional for All but Control Accounts: Only control oriented accounts will be notified when an incoming attachment is missing a digital signature for attachments.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Made Outgoing Message Character Set UTF-8 Implicit for All but Control Accounts: Only control oriented accounts will be notified when an outgoing messages need to be UTF-8 encoded.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Days in Trash Tracking and Autopurge Prompt: As a result of many people leaving old messages in their trashbin for months, startup performance was being seriously impacted. Users are now prompted at the end of every session to clean out their Trashbins, in addition to having their old trash automatically deleted after 14 days.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Autopurge Prompt Options When Exiting: While the default is for users to be prompted at the end of their VaultletMail session if they want to empty their Trashbin, they can always opt to "Never prompt", "Always prompt", or "Purge automatically" when exiting a VaultletMail session
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added "Quick Delete" for Messages: Now that many people are using the VaultletMail service as their main email address, they are dealing with copious quantities of incoming messages. Whereas previously a group of messages was deleted one at a time from the server (which resulted in one call across the internet to delete one message), deletes are now batched: deleting 10 messages only results in one call to the server. When you add this to our fast Trashbin purge, it makes eliminating excess messages quick and painless.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletFiler) Added "Quick Delete" for Encrypted Files: Wiping large files from a hard drive can be painfully slow, and even slower on USB drives. In order to facilitate some of our user's need for speed, they may now choose to skip file wiping when deleting previously encrypted files.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Confirmation Prompts When Closing VaultletMail, Logging out or Exiting VaultletSuite 2 Go: Despite the fact that most people almost never quit the VaultletSuite 2 Go while in the middle of editing a message, it was possible to throw away multiple unsent messages without being asked for confirmation. This little life saver ("Do you want to abandon editing this message?") is worth its weight in gold for those of us who accidentally hit the quit or logout button accidentally.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Added More Precise Cache Loading Calculation: Not all locally cached Trashbin messages were being counted when initializing the VaultletMail client. As a result some messages that were already cached were being downloaded anyway, wasting user's time and bandwidth. That's now been remedied.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail i18n) Added More Precise Default Language Calculation and Sanity Check: As the server generated messages have yet to be translated into Arabic, while the VS2Go is most of the way there, the server would occasionally choke on the lack of Arabic templates. Now users of any language other than English, Spanish, Russian and French will receive their auto-generated server messages in English, the server's current default language.
  • (Quality Control - SpecialDelivery Viewer Updater and Launcher) Fixed Write Permissions: The UnL used to update and launch the local SpecialDelivery Viewer didn't have the rights it needed to write recently downloaded jar files to the SDV library folder. As a result, updates were being run every time the local application was run. New version updates itself as expected.
  • (Quality Control - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Fixed "Float to Front" on OS X: Due to differences in implementation of Java Runtime Environments (JRE), the local version of the SDV on OS X required a special workaround to bring it back to the front when requested to decrypt and display another SpecialDelivery message.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Fixed Missing Attachment Deletion: The VaultletMail server would occasionally try to delete an attachment that was no longer stored on the server. Now checks for existence before attempting to delete it.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Corrected Numerous Small Spelling Errors: The Spanish version of VaultletMail contained a half dozen small typos, which have since been corrected.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletMail) Decreased Verbosity of Session Debugging Logs: As more people have adopted VaultletMail as their main email address, so too has the size of the session debugging logs grown. As a result of this growth, some people's compressed(!) logs exceeded maximum VaultletMail message size when attempting to autopost bug reports. Log analysis was used to decrease quantity of text produced by ~30%.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletSuite 2 Go) Incremented Maximum Encryptable Bytes: Servers now allow keypairs to be used for encrypting up to 1TB of data before being retired.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletSuite 2 Go) Increased Accuracy When Upgrading Accounts to Gold: Previously, upgrades from Blue to Gold accounts were added on to the end of the user's Blue account subscription, essentially giving them another free Gold year. Now, Blue to Gold upgrades first convert current Blue accounts to Gold at the current exchange rate of 4 years to 1, and then the new Gold subscription period is added on to that.

  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Added Free Two Minute Withdrawable Messages: Blue account holders can now retract an unopened VaultletMail or SpecialDelivery messages up to two minutes after sending them. After that, you'll need a Gold account to take them back anytime, right up to the second before any one of your recipients opens the message.
  • (Quality Control - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Added Outdated Build Detection and Optional Auto Exit: In order to keep the ever evolving SDV up to date, using the SpecialDeliveryViewerUnL is now the preferred method of starting the application. Users who use the advanced technique of starting the SDV from the "bin" directory will receive this prompt.
  • (Quality Control - VaultletSuite 2 Go) Added Outdated Build Detection and Optional Auto Exit: In order to keep VS2Go up to date and enforce important security updates, using the VaultletSuite2GoUnL is now the preferred method of starting the application. Using the advanced technique of starting VS2Go from the "bin" directory will trigger a prompt to manually update out of date installations (if encountered). In the case of a serious security bug, VS2Go will inform and exit w/o the possibility of continuing without updating.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Improved Message Rendering: Versions 1.5.x didn't properly format line returns, bunching all message text into one paragraph. Now correctly formatted.
  • (Bug Fix - Tell a Friend) Improved Credit for Gold Accounts: Previous versions gave Gold account holders a full year for using the this feature. Now they get a proportional update exchange rate, which is currently 4 Blue years to 1 Gold year (1/4 year).
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Bug Post Data: Added more debugging information support for malformed incoming multipart/alternative messages.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Session Timestamp Resynchronization: This release adds a subtle change to the strategy used to keep the VS2Go's internal time clock synchronized with the server. This should result in fewer failed large attachment uploads and subsequent obligatory retries.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Demoted a Number of Non-Bugs: This update also demotes a number of other non-issue bug reports to NON-FATAL-ERRORS.
  • (Bug Fix -VaultletMail/OSX Quirks) Improved Message Rendering on OSX: Updated message rendering strategy to remedy low-level OS X specific errors and subsequent bug reporting messages.

v2.9.4 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the vs.jar, languages.jar, txiki-lib.jar, updater.jar, and updater2.jar files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

The size of this required update is ~.7MB and incorporates the results of a thorough review of all bug reports auto posted by v2.9.3.

v2.9.4 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail SpecialDelivery) Added Withdrawable SpecialDelivery Messages: Gold account holders can now send withdrawable ScopeControlled or HalfLife'd messages and then withdraw them before they are read for the first time.
  • (Enhancement - SpecialDelivery Viewer ) Added Automatic SpecialDelivery Viewer Updates (BETA): Using an improved VS2Go updater module, the new updater now keeps the SpecialDelivery Viewer up-to-date. This is a BETA feature that will used by the SpecialDelivery Webmail extension for Firefox (and eventually IE and Outlook). This always up-to-date viewer will allow recipients of SpecialDelivery messages to view their webmail messages without depending upon using or having Java applets enabled in their browser.
  • (Bug Fix - Withdrawable SpecialDelivery Messages) Improved Consistency: In certain contexts, some constrained SD messages weren't being withdrawn correctly. v2.9.4.1 now works as you would expect it to.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Improved Menu Placement on OS X: Newer versions of Java on OS X didn't always place the SDV's menus in the right place, keeping them attached to the SDV's window, instead of the topmost menu bar.
  • (Bug Fix - New User Wizard) Improved Referrer Detection: Previous versions allowed some users to serve as referrers for their own account creation. This has been remedied.
  • (Bug Fix - Autoposted Bug Report) Improved Bug Post Filtering: Previous versions often reported minor issues as bugs. This update now filters for "NON-FATAL-ERRORS" before deciding to autopost a new bug report. This should help to reduce the "drinking from a firehose" bug report effect.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Corrupted Message File Handling: This update makes the handling a bit less verbose than before.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Demoted a Number of Non-Bugs: This update also demotes a number of non-issue bug reports to NON-FATAL-ERRORS.
  • (Bug Fix - OSX Quirks) Improved Detection of Java Quirks on OSX: This update now attempts to prevent a number of minor (non-fatal) errors from happening and being reported.
  • (Bug Fix - AddressBook) Improved Handling of Out-of-Synch Condition: The user's and server's copies of AddressBooks can occasionally become desynchronized. Code for handling this condition how flushes a desynchronized local AddressBook cache upon exiting the VaultletMail client.
  • (Bug Fix - Timed Confirmation Dialogs) Improved Handling of "No" Defaults: Previous versions had a bias for default answers of "Yes". Now that "No" is also being used as a default answer, those biases had to be adjusted.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Client Search-by-Typing ) Disabled Overly Verbose Debugging Information Defaults: Since this was clogging up session logs, the volume had to be turned down a bit.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go Installer) Improved Handling on Arabic Versions of Vista and Windows 7: Previous versions would occasionally hang during the installation process, forcing users to install the zipped up portable version instead.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Handling of Malformed Incoming Messages Generated by Outlook: Previous versions would occasionally choke on syntactically invalid email generated by Outlook. While this update actually allows the message to be viewed in its raw, unformatted format, future updates should include workarounds for this rare problem.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Added Missing SDV Launcher to Portable Versions: While the viewer was included by the standard installer, the portable versions omitted it.

v2.9.3.0-3 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite all the .jar files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

The size of this required update is ~3.6MB and incorporates the results of a thorough review of all bug reports auto posted by v2.9.2.

v2.9.3.0-3 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Network Enhancement - VaultletMail SpecialDelivery) Added Remote Enforcement of ScopeControl Constraints: While this is another "behind the magic curtain" infrastructure piece, it does have the important and distinct advantage of allowing all VaultletMail users to communicate securely via SpecialDelivery (from any VaultletMail server on the Internet) with anybody in the world. This update also allows them to have their ScopeControlled messages"live" and be managed from within the legal jurisdiction served by the physical server that corresponds to their VaultletMail address.
  • (New - VaultletMail Composer ) Added Email Address "SuperSearch" to the Composer: The new search-by-typing algorithm now matches all search text anywhere inside the entire "Name <you@vaultletsoft.com>" email address. That means that you could type in "soft" in the email address field to see who in your AddressBook has an address that contains the word "soft". This is a great time saver, especially when a person's name and their email addresses aren't at all similar. This is a distinct improvement over earlier versions of the simplistic "starts-with" type of searching. And it's better than Gmail's search by typing too!
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer ) Added Network Security Icons to Every Email Address Displayed by "SuperSearch": Every email address displayed by SuperSearch is also accompanied by an icon that describes the security path that a message sent to them by you would take. Very handy for people who are meticulous about security.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer ) Added Font Bolding and Underlining to Every Matched Email Address Displayed by "SuperSearch": Every matched email address displayed by SuperSearch is also enhanced by additional formatting that makes it obvious which part of the "Name <you@vaultletsoft.com>" address matches your search criteria. Very handy!
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer ) Added AutoSensing SpecialDelivery for Every Email Addressee's Domain: For every recipient in a VaultletMail message that you compose and send, the SpecialDelivery option is automatically selected if their email address corresponds to an email server's address that is SpecialDelivery enabled. That means you'll always send secure email to people whose email servers are set up to handle SpecialDelivery messages. Conversely, it also means that you'll never send insecure messages to people whose organizations use SpecialDelivery enabled email servers.
  • (New - VaultletMail Filter) Added Email Address "SuperSearch" to the Message Filter: The new SuperSearch is available to all Gold account holders and makes using filters to find messages easier and faster. That's another reason to go Gold.
  • (Network Enhancement - VaultletMail SpecialDelivery) Added Automatic SpecialDelivery Sender Key Verification: Recipients using VaultletMail can now have the contents of their SpecialDelivery automatically verified, even when these messages originate from outside their VaultletMail server's domain.
  • (Security - VS2Go) Digitally Re-signed All Java Jar Files Used by the VaultletSuite 2 Go (VS2Go): VaultletSoft's digital code signing certificate expired recently, so everything needed to be resigned with the new certificate issued by GoDaddy.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go Account Mgr) Enabled All Communications Options: Users can now unsubscribe themselves from the "VaultletSuite 2 Go System Availability" mailing list.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go Account Mgr) Improved Layout of Options: Options are not as cramped as they used to be, and read easier as a result.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Server) Improved Message Tickler Creation: Previous versions choked on subjects with "$" characters in them. The improved version now correctly treats this "magic" programming character as just another letter.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Server) Improved Message Subject Length: Previous versions had an implicit message subject length that wasn't consistently implemented for incoming messages. Now limits incoming and outgoing subject lengths to 256 characters.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Improved "Indeterminate" Progress Meters: Previous versions caused a low-level (almost a non-event) bug message to be generated and automatically posted. Now the "cylon-ing" progress meters do the right thing.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Cache Loading: Previous releases posted "FileNotFound" messages to the bug reports when this is really not a problem. New version downgrades this to a simple status line in the log, instead of a bug.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Composer) Improved AddressBook Updates and Inserts: Previous versions had problems reconciling out-of-synch certain user's local and server AddressBooks. Now does the right thing in these situations, and doesn't complain about it.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Dynamic Cache Management: Previous releases occasionally had problems when they couldn't find certain cached messages and required user intervention. This update now handles such cases automatically without complaining or requiring user intervention.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Dynamic Popup Window Generation: Previous versions would sometimes have a hard ascertaining what their background color should be and would fail to display themselves as a result. As this is basically a non-issue, the way this condition is handled now allows "the show to go on" without causing any further problems.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Handling of Corrupt Local Message Files: Previous versions didn't know what to do when encountering a corrupted message file on Windows. As a result, it would simply quit loading all other locally archived messages. Now notifies the user and asks them if they'd like to delete the corrupt file and continue loading the rest.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Improved Handling of Spam FlashFry Method: Due to low-level threading issues previous versions would sometimes become de-synched while flash frying the contents of the Spam folder. Now attempts to prevent and recover from this rare case.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Various: Now deletes old version 3 AddressBook; Fixed "null" error when using "Alt + Enter" on Linux to view a message while the "Get messages" button has the focus; Improved mail table deletion and synchronization; Fixed hangs on Linux when the VaultletFiler was the first application opened in a session; Fixed broken support forum URLs (after it was relocated at support.vaultletsoft.com); Resigned PDF license file; Fixed Obscure disabling of VS2Go after dismissal of progress meter on Linux; Fixed constrained msg rendering for locally generated msgs; And finally, last but not least, 2 big bug fixes:
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Improved Window Restacking & Flashing on Windows: This long running Java bug was fixed once the new code base was re-compiled as Java 1.5 and an obscure, but crucial, Java window management method was made available to the VS2Go.
  • (Bug Fix - PasswordValet) Added Workaround for Broken ScrollBars: The latest version of Java (v1.6.0_18) introduces a bug that effects the proper display of scrollbars, effectively hiding PV entries displayed "below" the viewable section of the PV tree. Now displays all PV files properly, complete with vertical scrollbars. Special thanks to wmwhk for reporting and following up on this one!

v2.9.2 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the following files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory: vs.jar, images.jar, and txiki-lib.jar along with languages.jar. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this required update is ~1.0MB

v2.9.2 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail SpecialDelivery) Added First Use of International/Global Key Store: Added a simple public key store for use by all VaultletMail servers worldwide. While this is largely a "behind the magic curtain" infrastructure piece, it does have the distinct advantage of allowing VaultletMail users on two different email domain names (or servers) to communicate securely via SpecialDelivery for the first time.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletSuite) Re-enabled "Tell a Friend" Service: Now prompts users to spread the word if they haven't yet been prompted. While previous versions had access to this service via the mail toolbar's "Help" menu, it required users to look for and pursue this, as opposed to simply reacting positively to a popup prompt. Result? Improved subscription signup rates and more free Blue years for most users
  • (Security - VS2Go) Updated Bundled Java Runtime (JRE): Version 1.6.0_18 includes numerous bug fixes that don't directly affect VS2Go users (as it's installed for the VS2Go's exclusive use, instead of system-wide use), but has been included for the sake of being thorough. The current release of the JRE also contains numerous stability and performance improvements.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Fixed Broken Invalid SSL Certificate Dialog: Now presents user with *all* of a given invalid SSL certificate's information, including "wildcard" and certificate chains, such as those used on multiple VaultletSoft web servers.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Composer) Improved Image Compression Error Handling: Previous versions quit processing of without warning when they encountered Java "OutOfMemoryErrors". The new version attempts to point out the problem, along with remedy (downloading and installing the latest version, v2.9.2, which addresses this problem).
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Composer) Improved Server Timestamp Handling: Previous versions often waited until *after* they failed processing uploading large files to re-synch the VaultletSuite and server clocks. This improved version now preemptively re-synchs the clocks before attempting large attachment file uploads.

v2.9.1 Change Summary

This required update is considered small by the Launcher module and will overwrite the following files in your in your "VaultletSuite2Go/lib/vaultletsuite" directory: vs.jar, images.jar, updater.jar along with the following language jars: languages.jar, languages_ru.jar. It will also update the vs-updater.properties file in your "VaultletSuite2Go/conf" directory.

This size of this required update is ~1.1MB

v2.9.1 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (Enhancement - VaultletSuite) Added Simple Sale Dialog: Added a simple Gold account sale window that supports the current, and future, limited-time offers. The way it's currently implemented, users should only see this window once per sale. That means they won't see it again until the next sale is run when v3.0 is released.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Fixed Numerous Deletion/Purge Bugs: Analyzed and fixed a dozen small multithreading issues related to deleting, purging, and permanent deletion of multiple messages. Many of the bugs were small, non-destructive and non-problematic for end-users, but the did generate copious bug reports, which flooded the bug tracking system. Now that these bugs have been remedied, a second pass at bug analysis can take place on other less common bugs in the 2.9.x codebase to be addressed in v2.9.2 w/in the next couple of weeks.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Restored Keyboard Navigation: Restored keyboard navigation to the now numerous and dynamically created and sometimes disabled message folders. This will be quite a relief for those drive the VS2Go primarily with their keyboard. A big tip o' the sombrero to HRO.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Updated Russian GUI Translation: Put the polished Russian text into production, replacing the previous draft version.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery Viewer) Updated Russian GUI Translation: Put the polished Russian text into production, replacing the previous draft version.
  • (Bug Fix - DropBox) Updated Russian GUI Translation: Put the polished Russian text into production, replacing the previous draft version.

v2.9 New Features, Enhancements & Bug Fix Details

  • (New! VaultletMail) Chronologically Ordered Message Folders: Instead of cramming hundreds of messages into one folder, we're now distributing them into sub folders ordered by year and month, with the current year and month at the top of the list.

That's an easy, at-a-glance way to manage your messages!
  • (New! VaultletMail) Easy to Use Message Filtering: We've added an easy way to find and filter your messages based upon their address (sender or recipient), along by date range too. The combination of these two enhancements means that you can now easily and securely manage thousands of messages.

    For Gold account subscribers only
    .
  • (New! VaultletMail) Unlimited Storage: We've finalized our support for power users and businesses who need to manage thousands of messages, breaking the previous system limit of 1024 messages in v2.8.

For Gold account subscribers only. 256MB storage limit still applies.
  • (New! VaultletMail) Automagic Image Attachment Compression: All incoming and outgoing image attachments from the VaultletMail system are now automagically compressed, saving everybody incredible amounts of time and bandwidth. As a result, even large r image attachments can be ScopeControl and HalfLife constrained.

For Basic account subscribers: Images are automatically compressed to 640 by 640 pixels.

For Blue account subscribers: Images are automatically compressed to 800 x 800 pixels.

    For Gold account subscribers:
    Image compression is user selectable.

  • (New! VaultletMail) Optimizable Bandwidth Strategies: Since every user's connectivity is different, we've added the ability to fine tune how VaultletMail behaves: you can now configure it to make the best of your internet connection, be it dialup, ADSL, or high-bandwidth connectivity.
  • (New! Performance) Faster VaultletMail Startup: This version also includes a huge performance boost for users with thousands of messages to manage. Startup times are now 2 to 11 times faster than v2.8!
  • (New! Performance) Faster VaultletFiler Encryption: Users with large compressed files to encrypt rejoice: Files that are already compressed can now be encrypted (unsigned) up to 5x faster and decrypted up to 2x faster than v2.8!
  • (New! VaultletMail) "Security Status" Icons: Not all of your messages are to (or from) other VaultletMail accounts. Now we've made it easy for you to tell at-a-glance which messages are secure point-to-point VaultletMail messages, which ones are secured via DropBox or SpecialDelivery, and which ones are insecure plaintext messages.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Simplified Login Screen: Believe it or not, sometimes two choices is one too many. Now the login screen sports one (and only one), button that says "Login". The "Create new account" has been converted into a URL style link, just like the "I forgot my password!" link. This is a example of KISS oriented design.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Simplified "Options" Menus: The most commonly used and easier to understand options are now grouped together and represented with icons in each application's "Options" menu. More KISS in action.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Support for Windows 7 and Snow Leopard (OS X): Installs, plays nicely, and looks right at home on both of these new operating systems.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) New VaultletSuite Icons for Windows XP and Vista: Both operating systems now get updated and better looking desktop icons.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) New VaultletSuite Window and Task Switching Icons for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Linux: All of these operating systems now sport their own visually identifying icons both in their window frames and within the task switcher contexts.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) New "Growable Popups" for the VaultletSuite: Since not all languages require the same amount of visual space to display the same idea, we've added a neat feature that allows VaultletSuite 2 Go popups to grow to the size necessary to display their content.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Anti Aliased Text Support for Windows 2000: Improved the consistency of presentation on this minority platform and dropped use of 3rd party AA support for obsolete Java 1.4.2 runtimes.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail Composer) Dynamic Button Bar Resizing: Added on-the-fly "right-sizing" layout for the two button bars. Now, even though the VS2Go is designed for 1024 x 768 (or larger) resolution computer monitors, users with netbooks and other constrained devices get a smaller, less space-intensive layout. Also added more descriptive (literally!) "more" & "less" toggle buttons.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Added Smoother Progress Dialogs: The new progress bars now flow more smoothly and more accurately reflect progress.
  • (Enhancement - VS2Go) Added Multi-User Installation: The new installer now allows users with administrator rights to install the VS2Go for use by all accounts on their computer. Compared to v2.8's "Single-User" installation model, this is a great time and bandwidth saver. And you can still choose to install on a per user basis too.
  • (Enhancement - System Administration) Improved Bounced System Msg Management: This enhancement to the system administrator's module means that we can spend more time adding the features you want, instead of spending it on VS2Go system broadcast mail queue administration.
  • (Enhancement - VaultletMail) Simplified Ex-"SpamChallenger" Options: Our recently renamed and easier to use "Unknown Senders" feature includes fewer options and more explicit descriptions of them.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Recompiled VaultletSuite 2 Go for Java 1.5: By moving and recompiling the entirety of the VS2Go's source code base from Java 1.4.2 to 1.5 (including the SpecialDelivery Viewer and the DropBox), you'll see drastically improved and predictable Applet behavior on Linux and OS X, especially when dealing with popup dialogs and editable text fields.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Code Cleanup for Previous Local Deletion Bug: v2.8.7's bug fix has since been cleaned up, standardized and reformatted to make this fix permanent.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Standardized Fonts on All Growable Popups: Look and feel (LnF) is now consistent across dialogs.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Use System Time for Incoming Email: All versions prior to v2.9 allowed senders of email arriving from the "outside world" to set the time of publication, which led to some messages arriving to the present from the distant future (as in the year 3009). Now, no matter what the external message's origin, it receives the VM server's local time upon import.
  • (Bug Fix- VaultletMail) Dialed Back Subject Line Dump in Debugging Mode: When debugging a production mode message, the subject was being dumped to the log. Since this information is not critical for debugging purposes, it has since been excluded from capture when in production mode.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Polished and Standardized Tree Rendering: v2.9 now contains improved tree drawing code that handles custom rendering of all hierarchical views of data. What's this mean to you? Prettier and more consistent tree rendering.
  • (Bug Fix - PasswordValet) Polished Background Image Rendering: The PasswordValet image was not always redrawn in the proper location when the window was resized, now it is.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery) Replaced Missing Message Border on OS X: The message pane's border went missing a while ago, now it's back where it should be.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery) Fixed Premature "Options" Rendering: The "Options" menu was being redrawn before users were finished logging in. This spoiled the beautifully rendered transparent cloud overlay. What's this mean to you? SpecialDelivery: Now more Aesthetically Wonderful™.
  • (Bug Fix - SpecialDelivery) Fixed Missing "Message Sending... Done!" Content: The missing localized text for this message has been restored.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Polished Keyboard Navigation w/in System Dialogs: Older versions didn't always shift the focus to where you would expect it to go when using the "Tab" and "Shift + Tab" key combinations. Now it works like you would expect.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Reformatted Presentation of SpecialDelivery and Constraints Dialogs : Older versions contained lower utility HTML: Now it's more Aesthetically Wonderful™ and easier to understand too.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail Composer) Implemented Saner Window Sizing: Older versions didn't quite layout the VMC as well as they could have, now they're sized according to the Golden Ratio. Additionally, if you were working on a resolution than 1024 x 768, you were constantly bumping into this hard coded minimum layout assumption. Now it's not only more Aesthetically Wonderful™ but it's more usable on low(er) resolution netbooks.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Implemented Consistent Use of "Condición Inesperada" in Error/Problem Dialogs: The Spanish version used two different ways of saying the same thing, now it's consistent across the VS2Go.
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Implemented Consistent Layout of Toolbars: Older versions used a different layout strategy, which resulted in "radio buttons" whose toggleability wasn't readily intuited (A good example would be the SpecialDelivery, Receipt, ScopeControl and HalfLife radio buttons in the v2.8's VaultletMail Composer). The new layout is not only more Aesthetically Wonderful™ on all platforms, but it's much easier to interpret a given toggle/radio button's selection state.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Smoothed out Incoming SpecialDelivery Rendering: The progress bars in older versions weren't as informative as they could be when rendering SpecialDelivery messages. Now it's smoother and more... you guessed it, Aesthetically Wonderful™ too!
  • (Bug Fix - VS2Go) Fixed Packaging and Obfuscation: Older versions used a less efficient obfuscation strategy, while the latest version does a better job of "trimming the fat" from the deployed and occasionally updated system jar files. What's in it for you? We just gave you back a few seconds of your life to do with as you please while performing online updates.
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Implemented Consistent Mail Deletion, Undeletion, Purge and Table Display Strategies: Older versions contained more decentralized code to manage all these processes: Now it's centralized, easier to understand, and better prepared for the upcoming v3.0's major update and announcements... (but you'll have to wait until then to find out what they are)
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail & Composer) Fixed "Local Attachment Optimization/File Not Found" Bug: Older versions couldn't find the "large" attachments that had been automatically archived to their local storage device due to their size (a time saving optimization). The problem was that while the attachment was indeed saved locally, its name began with the recipient's msg id, instead of its sender's msg id. Usually it was off by 1, which is just enough to tickle this bug. Special tip o' the sombrero to GT for describing this bug so well!
  • (Bug Fix - VaultletMail) Fixed "Save Attachment As...File Not Found" Bug: Older versions couldn't find locally archived "large" attachments when the sender used a "save as" file name that was different from the attachment's original file name. Not at all common, but really annoying when it popped up. Special tip o' the sombrero to GT for describing this bug so well!
